Planning to celebrate with alcohol? It’s important to understand that men and women process alcohol differently.
Why? Alcohol is absorbed through the digestive system and dispersed in the body’s water content. The more water available, the more diluted the alcohol. On average, men tend to weigh more than women and have a higher percentage of water in their bodies. This means that, pound for pound, women are exposed to higher alcohol concentrations before their bodies can break it down.
These biological differences can impact both the short-term and long-term effects of alcohol on women.
If that’s not enough to show cause to think before you drink, January 3, 2025, then “…Surgeon General Dr. Vivek Murthy issued an advisory citing scientific studies linking alcoholic beverages and an increased risk of at least seven cancers, including breast and colorectal cancers, and called for alcoholic beverages to carry cancer warning labels.”
